These locomotives were built between 1971 and 1978 for hauling ingot cars at British Steel's Templeborough works. The specification was for a loco no larger than the existing Fowler 0-4-0 diesel electrics but with twice the tractive effort and still able to go round 90' reverse curves. The end result was a loco with 6" Thick frames and 8" Thick buffer beams - even the footplate is 3" Thick. This massive frame, weighing 27 tons on its own, presents some problems in a model - most of our materials are far too thin for once. Only seven were built, all with the special drawgear and centre buffers for the ingot cars, but more recently three went to Rover at Longbridge for more general shunting duties, these are now operated by Harry Needle.

Andrew Barclay & Co of Kilmarnock built 35 of these locomotives between 1958 and 1960. Numbered in the range D2410-D2444 and later 06001-06010, the last were withdrawn in 1981. This kit builds either 2 or 3 window version.

These ten locos were built in 1956/7 for BR Eastern region (classified DJ/14) and were originally numbered 11177-86. They were based on Barclay's existing industrial shunter design and used the ubiquitous Gardner 8L3 engine with a four speed gearbox. They spent most of their lives in Lincolnshire and were scrapped in 1969/70

Etches Only. ER No.13 was a prototype express loco for the proposed York-Newcastle electrification. 

Although the line was de-electrified in 1935 the locos remained in store as BR 26502-10 until 1950. 

This loco, the first diesel shunter built by Hunslet in 1932, was bought by the LMS. Later used in industry, it has been preserved on the Middleton Railway since 1960.

The Ruston 165DS was introduced as a standard design in 1946 and 124 were built in several varieties. The 0-4-0 standard gauge version had 3'3" Wheels, a Ruston 165hp engine and weighed 29 tons. This kit is intended to build one of the two locos bought by British Railways in 1956 but it can easily be adapted to build the very similar industrial version. The two BR locos were numbered 11507/8, later D2957/8.

These locos were produced in considerable numbers over many years by Sentinel, then Rolls Royce later by Thomas Hill and most recently by RFS. Many are still in use in a wide variety of industrial locations.
