Ian Ratbone presenting a workshop at Hobby Holidays

Painting & lining Workshop in progress at Hobby Holidays

Painting & Lining with Ian Rathbone

This is a 2 day hands on workshop with a max of 12 participants where you will learn a lot, but also get the chance to practice with the master. (I watched him re-spray a loco body that I thought was quite good, the improvement was dramatic)

Day 1 will be spent on painting. Ian will give a short talk on how to get started what not to do and why, what to buy etc. This will be followed by a pratical demostration and your first chance to have a go. You will need to bring plenty of models preferably old items that you can practice on. Ian will also cover types of paint, primers, varnishes & thinners. It is hoped by the end of the first day that you will have gained a new skill and are happy with what you have produced, and that overnight they will be drying ready to line tomorrow (You should really leave a lot more time for the paint to harden).

Day 2 will be spent on lining and finishing. How to do straight lines, curves, rounded corners, etc. How to correct errors quickly. There will be tools you can use, as well as advice on what to buy and how to problem solve. We will also deal with transfer making. (I thought this part was not for me but I was wrong. Tranfers are a fantastic tool done the Ian Rathbone way) And finally hints and tips on how to make that loco so its easy to paint.

Requirements. All drinks and lunches are provided during the 2 days. We have 3 dedicated spray booths, a large compressor and some airbrushes, but its best to bring your own airbrush if you have one, so you get to practice with that one. You will need some old clothes, paints, thinners and of course some models to paint. We must also insist that you bring with you, for health & Saftey reasons, a face mask suitable for organic solvents.(We can supply at £19 each) For Workshop Requirement Details click here to download a PDF sheet
