The Craft of Scenerywith Barry Norman
Barry Norman is very well known for the articles he has written in many Model Railway magazines over the years plus a very good book on the subject of Scenery. No book could ever replicate the seeing, and having a go in real live 3D. During the 2 days we will start with a grass embankment, do a little bit on trees, come back to the grass as the glue drys, more on trees, then hedges, weeds, longer grass, shrubs etc. All this will be moving towards each person making a small diorama to take home.. It would not be practicle for each attendee to bring either, all, or part of his/her layout. Also its better to practice on something smaller and not so important. As you will see from the above pictures from the last workshop, quite a lot can be acheived. Along with meeting other model railway enthusiasts, asking all those difficult questions, and seeing some practical results, these workshops are good fun and very light hearted. Due to having a long list of different materials being used during the workshop, plus the carpet felt needs time to dry, and so Barry will pre-prepare it.(in normal Blue Peter Style), this workshop is priced + materials. More Details on Barry Norman:- I started exhibiting my first layout 'Windlesham Cove' in 1977 which was featured in the Railway Modeller and it won me the Railway Modeller Cup for 1981 .I soon wanted to develop the concept and skill of scenic modelling and so started on my extensive diorama Petherick .I again returned to the exhibition scene and started giving talks about my ideas .It was not long before I was asked to write my classic work 'Landscape Modelling' which has become a best seller through out the world .The experience I gained photographing the layout proved to be the start of a journey as a magazine photographer, establishing a style that suited the embryo Model Railway Journal . I then turned to S scale and built my historically accurate model of 'Lydham heath' before embarking on the 7mm scale layout 'Inkerman Street' with the Model Railway Journal team of Bob Barlow and Paul Karau .I have also travelled abroad with my layouts and have written some sixty articles mostly for the Model Railway Journal .I wrote my second book 'Layout Design' and at present I'm planning a third .Of late I have been working on a pair of DVDs in the Right Track series which will be called 'Modelling the Landscape' and have just returned from New Zealand after being the international guest at the Association of New Zealand Model Railway Clubs biannual convention . I try to be an all rounder ,and as such, my interest now ,is very much in building highly detailed 7mm scale stock .
